Unidos y Avanzando

Every person has an inner drive, a motivation, that propels them; to take action, create change, to unite. These inner drivers are not only various, but also altered as we progress in our lives. Within our own professional journey, we may even allow these to be more individually focused rather than community centered.

In fact, if we are able to reflect on our upbringing, we may notice that community has been at the center of our development. We had parents, tios y tias, primos y primas, teachers, mentors, elders and pastors they all have played a role as part of your community in supporting your growth as a person.

Why should it be different in our professional industry? Within accounting, I have been blessed to be a part of some incredible communities which not only support my growth as a professional, but also my desire to feed the inner drive that makes me who I am as a person, a human.

It started with my not for profit community of Mission Asset Fund and La Cocina where I learned so much about community organizing, financial literacy, and human advocacy. Followed by my time in corporate banking where business structure, lending, and financial systems knowledge base grew. Up until today, where my Xero family, Accounting Salon colleagues, and Contabi Community have shaped the way in which I want to instill change to our industry. These communities have served me well in advancing and growing, not only as a professional but also as a human.

Contabi Alliance’s purpose is to Lead, Connect, and Accelerate the adoption of cloud accounting across the Americas by creating an engaged globally recognized Latino community. As the President and co-Founder, I am committed to contribute to our mission by building our community one member at a time. So that each and every community member is able to have a platform to shine brightly. With this in mind, we recently announced the initiative Latin@s in Accounting Tech in which we celebrate and highlight amazing leaders that we can all look to as successful and driven people. Each of these initial 8 humans, I am proud to call my friends. They each have not only excelled in their roles, but more importantly have continuously shared their time to uplift our communities while sharing their resources to make sure we are all succeeding together. Unidos. Avanzando.

We each have a set amount of time to make an impact, however small or big we want it to be. Myself, I am constantly thinking about ways in which I can leave an imprint for my future generations. I think about my two boys, Kai Mateo and Noa Amadeo, and what I can do TODAY to provide them a better opportunity when they are ready to make their own impact. I think about the legacy I am creating. About the impact I am choosing to make along with each and every person that I come in contact with. This is my inner drive. My motivation.

What is yours?

Join us on Wednesday, September 23rd at 3pm PST as I get the opportunity to chat with these 8 Latin@ Leaders to learn from them on how they have been able to do this, and ways in which we can all follow in supporting the growth and unification of our communities.
