Latino leaders in Accounting Tech
Accounting is the international language of business and Contabi has set out to ensure language and cultural diversity is represented across our members and technology partners. According to research from the Stanford Latino Entrepreneurship Initiative, Latinos represent the fastest growing segment of the economy at 34% over the past 10 years. Latino owned firms have the highest rate of business clients and customers outside the United States at 4.5% according to research from the 2019 Latino Donor Collaborative GDP Report. In August the renowned accelerator YCombinator graduated their latest batch of startups and 16 of the 192 were from Latin America with 10% of the total cohort identifying as Latino.
Due to the growing rate of Latino entrepreneurship and their international reach, we believe accounting is critical to the long term success of these businesses. Contabi member-firms and our technology partners are collaborating on two initiatives: 1. “Cuéntame by Contabi” highlights our member firms who have international expertise. 2. “Latinos in Tech: Accounting” highlights Latino and Latina leaders in accounting technology who are championing the Latino advancement in the industry. These two initiatives advance Contabi’s purpose; Lead, connect, and accelerate the adoption of cloud accounting across the Americas - by creating an engaged globally recognized Latino community. We invite you to tune in over the next 8 weeks.
Leaders are selected based on their impact, their influence in the industry, and familiarity and product adoption from Contabi alliance members. You will learn why their career path, challenges, and achievements contribute to the work they love.
“It is important for us to highlight these individuals as leaders as they are the champions and inspirations for younger generations in the industry,” said Joel Lacayo, President of Contabi. Some highlights include Cristina Huizar from Paychex, where bi-lingual resources were made available to help customers through COVID-19, Jackeline Velez from Xero, where they invested in the US Hispanic Market by appointing a dedicated Director.
